NEWSLETTER WEEK: January 23-27, 2012


A back to normal week!

This is what we will cover this week:

SPELLING: Patterns for ch and th. Spelling test Friday!

MATH: Fractions: Equal and unequal parts, halves, thirds, and fourths. Identify and show a unit fraction of a region. Estimating fractions. Identify and show fractions of a set of objects.

R/W: Finalize Publication of autobiographies.  Introduction to Singular and Plural Nouns, Pronouns, and Verbs.  Students will begin a unit on Science Fiction and learn to make connections with the text.  Continue reading aloud George's Marvelous Medicine by Roald Dahl. 

SCIENCE: Predict, observe and describe what happens when separating soil components by settling. Use of test tubes. Record their results.

DOL (Daily Oral Language): Self correct sentences.

HERE ARE A FEW REMINDERS:

MAP TESTS (MEASURES OF Academic Progress) Tests: Will be applied this coming weeks. These are computerized adaptive assessments that provide information to meet your child’s needs. The areas evaluated are Reading, Math and Language usage. If you have any questions feel free to contact your child’s teacher. Second grade schedule is as follows:

Wednesday 25           Reading Test           2-A 1:15a.m. - 2:30 p.m.

                                                                  2-B 11:40 a.m.-12:55 p.m.

Wednesday 1            Language Test         2-A 8:30 a.m. - 9:45 a.m.

                                                                 2-B 10:05 a.m. – 11:20 a.m.

The 100th Day of school will be on Friday, January 27th. Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd will be doing many activities to celebrate this day. In order to prepare for the 100th day of school, we are asking our SECOND GRADERS to dress up as if they are 100 years old! Over the years, there have been many creative costumes consisting of powdered hair, walking sticks, spectacles, gray beards, and many more. Enjoy creating your costume and be ready to model it on Friday 27th.


DPTO Fun Run: Our annual school Fun Run will take place on Saturday, January 28, from 8:30 a.m. There will be the traditional run, games, and a complimentary pancake and fruit breakfast to follow. The pledge forms were sent before the Winter Holiday; however, if you would like an additional copy, please download it from the administrators’ blogs.
